The Wonders of Duct Tape

On Monday, the Kids DIY Club met to make some wonderful cell phone cases out of duct tape.  It sounds strange, but they turned out great.  It always helps to have colorful duct tape to make a project turn out well!

The Kids DIY Club will be taking a break in August but will be back in September for more creative crafts for you to tackle.

New Books!

We have some great new books at the library and there really is something for everyone.  These chapter books in the J Fiction section range from magical to urban to suspenseful.  Check out these few below and stop by the New Books Display to see what other great books are available!

In Book 2 of The Kronos Chronicles, Petra and her friends are surprised by some revelations concerning Dee, Kit and Petra's father.  Also, they must face Prince Rodolfo as he ruthlessly attempts to find the powerful Celestial Globe.  This fast paced fantasy with a fearless heroine is a perfect read for summer.  If you liked The Golden Compass, Charlie Bone or The Spiderwick Chronicles, this is a great series to try out.

In the Southern African country of Malawi, a newly orphaned boy leaves his affluent life in the city to move in to a one room hut in a rural village with his aunt and cousins.  Sam must learn to adjust to his new life and the death of his parents.  This is a wonderful story that deals with grief and change as well as transporting the reader to the Malawi countryside.  If you liked The Great Gilly Hopkins or The White Giraffe, give this award-winning book a try.

Theo Boone has two lawyers for parents, so of course, he has a pretty good sense of the law and justice system.  But when a big murder trial begins in his small town, Theo gets drawn into the case.  This intriguing, suspenseful book will keep you guessing until the end!

This book isn't exactly new but we do have a new copy.  But the 2010 Newberry Medal winner When You Reach Me is not a book to miss out on.  Rebecca Stead tells the story of Miranda, a 6th grader growing up in the late 1970s in New York.  Things are changing when your lifelong best friend stops hanging out with her and mysterious notes start turning up.  This original and thoughtful story is a must read for kids and adults alike.  If you liked A Wrinkle in Time or First Light, check this book out!

Dance Up a Storm @ the Library!
