Could Your Child Be Our Grand Prize Winner?

This year's summer reading grand prize winner can be found somewhere in all of these raffle tickets. If you want to be here for the live drawing, stop by the library on July 27 at 7:30 p.m. If you can't make it, stay tuned for our Flip Video footage on our blog.

Our Top 20 and Top 50 readers will be contacted this week, but remember---even if you don't receive a call, your child will still be eligible for the Grand Prize drawing if they have earned raffle tickets throughout the course of the program.

Have a great week!

Save these Dates, Summer Reading Finishers!

This is just a reminder to all of our superstar summer readers and their families that there are still some very important dates left that you should be aware of:

Monday, July 20: All summer reading logs should be turned in by this day to make sure all of our readers' minutes are included in our calculations for our Top 20 and Top 50 summer readers. You may check in for the last week's prizes after that if you need to, but only the minutes we have recorded as of the end of the day Monday will be applied to the Top 20 and Top 50 numbers.

Tuesday, July 21:
We will start contacting our Top 20 and 50 summer readers to invite them to our Top 50 bowling and pizza party. We ask that all guests please let us know about their plans to attend, so other children may have an opportunity to go if a child cannot make the party.

Sunday, July 26 @ Circle Bowling Lanes from 2:00-4:00p.m.
Our Annual Top 50 Readers Bowling Party! Pizza and soft drinks will be available.

Monday, July 27 @ 7:30-8:00 p.m. Grand Prize and Top 20 Raffle Drawings
Our grand prize winners do not have to be present to win, however our Top 20 readers should plan to attend in order to have a better guarantee of getting their top choice of our prizes.

Saturday, August 1 @ 10:30
Celebrate the completion of our Be Creative Babies program with music teacher and performer Candy Heitner! Her interactive and music-filled program will be sure to entertain. This program is designed for ages 2-5.

Free Pool Party? It's true--

We might have run out of pool passes to give away to our summer readers, but it's not too late to swim for free! The Forest Park Youth Commission will be having a pool party on Friday, July 17 from 8:15-10:00 p.m. Admission is free and all Forest Park schoolchildren and their families are welcome and invited to attend.

Harry Potter Mania!

Thanks to the thirty kids, parents, and Potter fans who came out to hear our Half-Blood Prince readings and enjoy our wizarding snacks. Congratulations to Peter S. who won the four tickets to see Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince in the theater. We hope you have fun tonight!

If you are a parent that attended the party and want the tasty recipes for any of our treats, let us know!

And finally, congratulations to our brave (and talented) readers: Jonah, Katie, and Annaliese for their excellent readings. We deeply appreciate the support and help of our tireless YS summer volunteers. We are always accepting applications for new volunteers to add to our team. Kids 10 and over are welcome to apply. Miss Nicole is the contact person. Feel free to stop by anytime or call us for inquiries about our volunteer program.

Superstar Summer Readers Unite!

If it seems like a lot of reading has been happening this summer, it's because it has! Out teen summer readers have logged an astonishing 85,591 pages read (and counting) and our kids have read for over 134,760 minutes (or 2,246 hours).

As we close in on our final two weeks of the summer reading program, the Youth Services Department would like to encourage all of the dedicated kids and teens who signed up for the program this year to keep up the great work--congratulations on all that you have achieved this summer!

NOTE: All participants who want to ensure that their total minutes are completely tabulated so we can determine our top 20 and top 50 summer readers should turn in their logs no later than the close of business (9:00 p.m.) on Monday, July 20th. Our grand prize raffle drawing, and our prize raffles for our top 20 readers will be Monday, July 27th at 7:30 p.m.

Check out these fantastic creations from our creative FPPL kids! Not only are they high fashion, but these works of wearable art are highly earth-friendly since they're made entirely out of recycled materials.
