Great Website

This week I'm highlighting Scholastic’s Teacher Book Wizard site. This site is designed for teachers but it’s also useful to parents and anyone working with kids. It's so cool because it allows you to search for books by reading level. It even has a read-alike section with a handy little slider tool that helps you to find similar books at lower or higher reading levels. Check it out!

Tales of Beedle the Bard Essay Contest

There are only a few days left but I’d thought I put this out there anyway. To celebrate the release of The Tales of Beedle the Bard, Scholastic books is sponsoring an essay contest. Five winners will receive a trip to Edinburgh, Scotland to attend an exclusive Harry Potter event! All entries must be submitted by 5pm on October 30th. See official contest rules for more information.

The Library is Your Election Connection

I can’t believe Election Day is just two weeks away! The library has a number of books that can help kids understand the election process. Next time you stop in check out a book from our Election Connection display. It’s full of great titles like the ones below.

Election Connection: The Official Nick Guide to Electing the President

Vote! By Eileen Christelow

The Voice of the People: American Democracy in Action by Betsy Maestro

Political Elections by Davis Worth Miller

Great Website

There are so many great educational websites designed for children. Each week I will try to highlight one.

October is Fire Prevention Month so grab the kids and spend some time on Sparky the Fire Dog's website @ www.greatamericanfiredrill.org.

Play games, download a fire protection checklist or participate in the Great American Fire Drill. It's a fun way to teach kids important safety information.
